Hanukkah
Hanukkah
Buy the menorah candles, dig out the dreidel and get ready for the latkes. In 2024, Hanukkah begins the evening of December 25 and ends the evening of January 2. In 2025, Hanukkah will begin at sunset on December 14. The Jewish holiday commemorates the Maccabees' victory over the Syrian army in the second century B.C.E. According to the Hanukkah story, when the Maccabees rededicated the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, they found enough oil to light the Temple menorah for one night, but the oil miraculously lasted eight nights.
Everyone has their favorite traditions that commemorate the rededication of the Holy Temple—reciting blessings while lighting a candle on the menorah each night, singing songs, giving gelt to the children, playing dreidel, and eating foods prepared in oil, like those latkes and other yummy treats fried in oil (Mmm...jelly doughnuts). If you’re hosting a Hanukkah feast, we have serving platters, bowls and other kitchen accessories for all those delicious foods.
