Plan a Monster Bash!
It's ghostly! It's ghastly! And not least but lastly... When all's said and done, it's frightfully fun! It's a party that's so much fun, it's scary! But wait -- it gets better. It's also wicked easy. And suitable for both Halloween and October birthdays. So c'mon -- let's do the monster bash. Haunt the House... - Put on a Spooky Face: Use a "spooky faces" party set from your Hallmark Gold Crown Store to decorate the table and wall.
- Favorite Haunts: Use the Keepsake Ornament "Hauntington" Haunted House for a ghastly-good centerpiece.
- Orange You Scared? Hang orange and black crepe paper streamers in the doorways to set the mood.
- Just Hanging Out: Blow up balloons. Cover them with white fabric squares that are larger than the balloons and tie at the bottom with orange ribbon. With a black marker, carefully add eyes, nose and a smile! (You can draw the face first if that's easier.) Now you can have lots and lots of ghosts hanging around! You can make additional smaller ghosts with the Styrofoam balls if you'd like.
- Old-Fashioned Web Site: Hang homemade cobwebs from every corner!
- Dress Code: Welcome guests dressed as a monster. Invite them to dress up for the party as well. (Have costume contests if you are so inclined.)
Monstrous Fun... - Monster Match Game: You'll need thirty 3" x 5" index cards and two sheets of Hallmark's "Scary Smiley Faces" Halloween stickers. Make 30 sticker cards by placing one sticker on each index card -- you'll end up with 15 matching pairs. With the cards face down, players turn over two at a time, trying to match the monster faces. Winner has the most matched pairs at the end!
- Monster Musical Chairs: Play musical chairs using scary music, like Hallmark's Halloween Cocktail Party CD.
- Monster Masks: Have a variety of materials available like googly eyes, pipe cleaners, candy corn pieces, cotton balls, ribbons, construction paper, tape, glue, etc. Also, have a bunch of paint stir sticks on hand (usually free at home improvement stores). Let the kids make their own monster mask creations on pieces of poster board or paper plates. Glue or staple paint sticks to the back of the masks so kids can hold them in front of their faces.
- Gross Anatomy: Players must reach behind a curtain to feel the contents of a bowl, as you tell them what it is. (Peeled grapes are eyeballs, cooked spaghetti is a brain, hot dogs are fingers or toes, large pretzel sticks are bones, etc.) Then they write down what food they think it really is. Most correct answers wins.
- Ghostbusters: A ghost piņata makes a big hit at any October party!
Eat, Drink and Be Scary... - Witch's Brew: Pour green or orange punch or soda in a plastic cauldron. And then add the witch's icy-cold hand. Fill a plastic glove (like the ones used for serving food) with punch or water, freeze, and then carefully peel the glove off before placing the ice in the punch.
- Mummy Wraps: More commonly known as pigs-in-a-blanket -- kids love 'em and they're easy to make.
- Slime Balls: Caramel apples are always a hit. Buy kits and let the kids make them if you're looking for another fun activity.
- Frankencake: Make a regular sheet cake and decorate with a rectangular Frankenstein face. Increase the fear-factor by adding gummi worms for scars.
- Witch's Hats: So simple, it's spooky. Use pointed sugar cones, put a dip of ice cream on top, and turn over in a bowl. Ta-da!
