Your treatments....tough. Your spirit...tougher.

Your courage...inspiring.

Cancer is not who you are--it's what's happening to you. So we'll still call each other and swap stories and advice. We'll still argue when we disagree and laugh when it's funny.

And when you're scared and the world feels like too much, lean on me, like I'll still do with you. Because you are as you've always been...someone who means so much to me.

No one said it would be easy to lose your hair. But knowing you, you'll find a way to turn this situation around and use it as a badge of honor, a sign to the world that your treatments are working.

And when this is all behind you and your hair grows back, you'll be able to say with assurance that every day is a good hair day.

hope...is why the stars light their candles every night. Even when the darkness is too deep for you to see them, you know they're out there...shining and beaming across millions of miles like the message you most need to hear…

Don't give up hope, and it won't give up on you.

It's times like this that we realize how fragile life is...that we question so many things...that we wonder why now, why us, why?

But even in this, you have strength, along with the love and support of so many people who believe in you.

  • Throw a card shower. Ask friends, family or co-workers to send cards on specific days or weeks.

  • For a patient whose immune system is too compromised for flowers, send mylar balloons anchored with a bag of hard candies. The candy also relieves the metallic taste that sometimes comes with certain treatments.

  • Lend emotional support by accompanying your friend to an appointment or treatment.

  • Borrow a child’s stuffed animal and take photos of it around town. (Don’t forget to leave a note that says, “Be back soon!”) Send snapshots with funny notes about its adventures from the road.

  • Add his or her name to the prayer list at your place of worship.
