Our granddaughter, who is not quite two years old, lives in Littleton, Colorado with her mom and dad. We live in Palm Harbor, Florida. We visit when we can and we send cards and pictures so Ellie knows who her Grammy and Pop are. At Christmas I bought The Night Before Christmas, recorded it and sent it to Ellie so she would have it before Christmas. Our daughter-in-law and son took a video of Ellie the first time she heard the book and they sent it to us. Ellie's eyes lit up when she heard my voice and all she could say was "Wow." With each page she turned, she said, "Wow." The video is priceless and gave us so much pleasure. As one of her Christmas presents, my husband recorded Bright and Beautiful, and our daughter-in-law tells me that Ellie says "Pop" every time she opens the book and hears his voice. These books are a wonderful way to keep in touch and also when we are gone, our granddaughter will always have our voices reading to her. They are expecting a new baby in July, and I am sure we will record books for that child as well. Please continue to provide these. They are a wonderful gift to both the receiver and the giver. Our daughter Courtney is cortically blind and mentally retarded. She depends on her hearing to recognize people and to "get around." She received the recordable storybook The Night Before Christmas for Christmas from her Grandmother and Aunt who live 3000 miles away. Because of this distance she does not see them very often so when she heard their voices reading her a story she could hardly sit still, she was so excited. We had tears. Courtney has never been excited to receive a present…ever. Seeing her face light up for the first time in 21 years at receiving a gift meant so much to us as parents.
We hope Hallmark will consider making more recordable books.

My father is in an advanced stage of Alzheimers and it is very difficult to think of things to give him for birthdays, Father's Day and Christmas. My family recorded The Night Before Christmas storybook over Thanksgiving vacation to give to my father for Christmas. To have a book that he is familiar with, with our voices that he can listen to over and over and over again, is the perfect gift. I hope you will continue to expand this 'recordable storybook' series. It doesn't matter if the stories are for children. If the stories are classic, dementia and Alzheimer patients may in the back of their memory somewhere, find a thread of familiarity, and that is most often the best one can hope for. Thank you for providing our family with this vehicle to connect to my father.

My husband received a promotion last year and as a result our family had to move 800 miles away from my parents. Our kids had been used to seeing 'Na' and 'Pop' about every other weekend. The move was a hard adjustment for everybody. The kids now see 'Na' and 'Pop' twice a week on a webcam. We go home about twice a year.
Recently my daughter saw a Hallmark commercial that showed a grandmother reading one of the recordable storybooks and then the granddaughter listening to the story. She immediately had to have one.
My mom went to her local Hallmark store and bought one—The Night Before Christmas. We received the book in the mail today. All three of my children absolutely LOVE this book. My five-year-old son put his head close to the book and said 'Na??' as if he thought she was in the book. The kids love having their grandmother read to them and now they have that opportunity anytime they want. My son has already asked my mom to do another one.
This book has already been a blessing to our family. It's truly a keepsake that they can keep through the years and something that can be special to them for many, many years. It is something that will let them have their grandmother with them at all times.

As a Mexican-American, our family has many traditions during the holidays. From making tamales or my grandmother making tortillas as her gift to the family, we look forward to these traditions every year. One new tradition I am looking forward to is hearing my grandmother read The Night before Christmas in our recordable storybook. The storybook text is in English and my grandmother has recorded the audio in Spanish. Not only is it great to hear such a memorable holiday story in Spanish but even better that it is my grandmother speaking. I am able to follow along and read to be able to understand. Who know…someday maybe my kids will be able to learn a little español from their great-grandmother through such a wonderful treasure.
