Writing Christmas Thank You Notes

Writing Christmas thank-you notes

When writing thank-you notes for Christmas gifts, consider these helpful tips from On a Personal Note: A Guide to Writing Notes with Style by Angela Ensminger and Keely Chace.

1. Greet the recipient
Great thank-you notes start off right. Don't forget to double-check that you're using the correct form and spelling of the recipient's name, as well as the names of others mentioned in your note.

2. Express your gratitude
The body of great thank-you notes begins with those two magical words, thank you. Clearly state your thanks, then enhance and personalize them.

3. Elaborate
Great thank-you notes use specific details to let your recipient know she's made a lasting impression with her kindness. For a gift, take the opportunity to tell her your plans for it, or if you're already using it, tell her how.

4. Compliment and look ahead
Great thank-you notes make people feel good about themselves and their relationship with you. Mention the next time you might see or talk to her. If that's not an option, let her know you're thinking of her.

5. Restate your gratitude
Great thank-you notes come full circle and end the way they begin—by saying thanks. Consider quick but creative ways to round out your thanks by adding a little color, detail or description.

6. Give your regards
Great notes end with an appropriate closing. Choose your closing carefully, depending on the recipient.
