Corporate Citizenship Report
2010
Message from the CEO
Donald J. Hall, Jr. President and CEO

My grandfather, Joyce Hall, took the germ of an idea—that he could help people form connections with one another—to create this company in 1910. Because his vision by its very nature required responsible business practices, he established good corporate citizenship as an essential value that fueled Hallmark’s early success.

My father, Donald J. Hall, built on that base. He led the effort to codify our beliefs and values during his time of leadership to ensure that basic principles were in place to guide decision making as accountability was spread more widely through the organization.

He also demonstrated—every day—his passion for the value of our products, faith in the people who develop them, commitment to quality and integrity, and appreciation for the communitities that nurture our success.

The example of those who have come before is not lost on us today through our environmental, workplace, supplier partnership and philanthropic activities. As we enter Hallmark’s second century, I, my brother David, and everyone who works for Hallmark take seriously the responsibility, and privilege, to demonstrate our core beliefs and values and our commitment to creating a more emotionally connected world.

Donald J. Hall, Jr.
